Jammu Revenue Officer Booked by ACB for Disproportionate Assets Case
Key Highlights:
- Revenue officer Ashok Kumar booked for amassing disproportionate assets.
- Accusations include luxury property, bank balances, and lavish expenditures.
- Previous arrest in a bribery case adds to the ongoing investigation.
The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against revenue officer Ashok Kumar for allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The investigation revealed that Kumar, formerly serving as the Naib Tehsildar of Gharota in Jammu, amassed significant assets, including a double-storey palatial house, luxury vehicles, and large bank account balances. The probe extends to substantial expenditures on personal events, which appear inconsistent with his official earnings.
Kumar’s assets include a palatial duplex house in Akhnoor, luxury cars, two-wheelers, and significant funds deposited across multiple bank accounts. The ACB’s inquiry indicates that these acquisitions far exceed the officer’s legitimate income.
Kumar is also suspected of spending exorbitant sums on his daughter’s wedding and maintaining an opulent lifestyle, further raising suspicions.
This isn’t Kumar’s first encounter with the law. In 2022, he was arrested alongside his associate, Raman Gupta, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh in exchange for issuing a forged document.
Although Kumar was granted bail, this previous arrest has heightened scrutiny in the current case. The ongoing investigation by the ACB seeks to determine the full extent of Kumar’s allegedly illicit activities.
The case against Kumar was initiated following a thorough verification process that substantiated the allegations of disproportionate assets.
The ACB continues to probe the matter, focusing on the sources of his wealth and any potential involvement of other associates. Further legal actions will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
