Residents of the Jammu border region gathered in protest against Pakistan on Wednesday in response to ceasefire violations. The tensions flared after two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained injuries in an exchange of gunfire with Pakistan Rangers.

The incident occurred at around 8:15 AM on Tuesday when Pakistan Rangers initiated gunfire towards BSF troops stationed at the Vikram post in the Arnia sector. In response, the BSF retaliated, as reported in an official statement.
On Wednesday, a multitude of villagers congregated along the Arnia border belt, raising vocal anti-Pakistan sentiments and symbolically burning an effigy of Pakistan. A resident voiced his frustration, expressing, “They have once again betrayed our trust by engaging in unprovoked firing, which resulted in injuries to two BSF soldiers. This is unacceptable,” during the demonstration.
Notably, this marked the first ceasefire violation in the last two years, where Pakistan Rangers resorted to “unprovoked firing” against border guards along the International Border (IB) in the region, as detailed in the official statement. The two BSF personnel injured in the exchange received prompt medical assistance.
It’s pertinent to recall that India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, wherein both nations committed to the strict adherence of all ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as other sectors.
