    Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police have exposed a fraudulent scheme where 18 Rohingyas managed to obtain ‘Indian National’ identity cards through marriages with local residents in the state, as reported by Republic World. The investigation revealed that these Rohingyas engaged in matrimony across seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir, spanning four districts in Jammu and three in the Kashmir valley.

    According to officials, the police successfully identified 18 Rohingyas who entered into marriages with locals, including six in Kishtwar, three in Doda, and two in each of Jammu, Ramban, Poonch, and Bandipora, along with one in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir. The arrested women in Kishtwar have been identified as Zinta Begum, Anwara Begum, Shabu Begum, Laila Begum, Hassina Jan, and Shaheena Begum.

    An official involved in the investigation stated that the current count is preliminary and may rise as the probe progresses. Further details may emerge through the interrogation of those detained or arrested during the raids in the Jammu region. The official emphasized a thorough examination of every aspect, including national security concerns and potential involvement in local crimes. Any related findings could lead to separate legal actions. The official clarified that the case is specifically focused on intelligence inputs indicating Rohingyas gaining access to India’s national identity cards through illicit means.

    The report highlighted that 18 Rohingyas have been apprehended across three Jammu districts as part of the police crackdown on Rohingyas and their accomplices who unlawfully acquired ‘Indian National’ identification cards with the assistance of locals. In Kishtwar, 13 arrests were made, along with four in Poonch and one in Rajouri. Additionally, over 40 individuals have been detained in the Jammu region. The police seized illegally acquired Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks, and revenue records during the operation.
