J-K Police Takes-Action-Against Social-Media Offenders for Spreading Hate Content
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has taken action against nine individuals for allegedly misusing social media platforms to disseminate rumors and hateful content, according to officials.This move follows the issuance of guidelines by authorities aimed at curbing communally sensitive or terrorism- and secessionism-promoting content on social media.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against these individuals in various districts, including Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora, and Ganderbal, where they are accused of uploading content that is both hateful and abusive, as well as spreading unfounded rumors on social media, as reported by police officials.
In Anantnag, three individuals – Salman Mushtaq Kuttay, residing in Check Wangund Dooru; Rameez Ashraf Hadi, residing in Watnad Kokernag; and Umer Farooq Ganie, also known as Ghazi Sir, residing in Ratherpora Khairbugh Srigufwara – face legal action for allegedly uploading inflammatory and seditious videos on social media platforms.

Baramulla Police have taken legal action against Bilal Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wani Mohalla Baliharan Pattan, who is accused of being a provocateur and spreading rumors.In Pulwama’s Awantipora area, legal action has been initiated against Sheeraz Ahmed Beigh for posting inflammatory and instigating content on social media.Budgam’s police have also taken strict measures against individuals misusing social media platforms to spread rumors, with two troublemakers booked and presented before the magistrate.
In Ganderbal, legal action has been initiated against Waseem Mushtaq Malik and Aadil Ahmed Rather for uploading and sharing hateful content on social media.The guidelines issued by the district administrations in Kashmir, under CrPC Section 144, aim to prevent the spread of content that is communally sensitive or promotes terrorism and secessionism.
These guidelines have been in effect for the past week.Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir V K Birdi, speaking to reporters in Bandipora, emphasized that individuals found promoting anti-national or terrorism-related narratives, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and causing disruptions to peace and public order, will face stringent police action.
He also urged families to monitor their children to prevent the unintentional spread of rumors on social media.
