IRCTC Embraces NFTs for Tejas Trains
On March 13, the Indian Railways made a historic move by acknowledging the NFT sector, signaling a significant milestone for the digital assets industry in India. In celebration of Holi, the IRCTC introduced vibrant NFT tickets for two Tejas trains operating between Delhi and Lucknow. As a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, IRCTC’s foray into NFTs marks a notable shift in the traditional ticketing system.
Colorful NFTs Reflecting Landmarks
Displayed through IRCTC’s active X handle, these NFTs feature artistic sketches of Delhi and Lucknow’s iconic landmarks against vivid backgrounds. Commencing from March 20, passengers purchasing tickets for Tejas trains numbered 82501 and 82502 will have the opportunity to obtain these exclusive NFTs until April 2.
Enhancing Journey Experiences
IRCTC highlighted the multifaceted benefits of these NFTs in its X post, emphasizing their role as more than just digital souvenirs. These tokens offer travelers the chance to personalize their journey memories by incorporating their own photographs and accessing exclusive offers from select brands. However, it remains unclear whether all ticket purchasers will receive these NFTs as part of their ticket purchase or if additional fees will apply.
The introduction of NFTs by IRCTC reflects the ongoing exploration of blockchain technology within the Indian Railways. Last year, the National Academy of Indian Railways collaborated with Polygon to conduct workshops aimed at promoting blockchain’s advantages in railway industries. Additionally, earlier this year, IRCTC offered NFT tickets for journeys to Ayodhya, providing passengers with digital memorabilia to commemorate their travels.
