Iran-Israel-US War LIVE Updates: Kuwait Oil Refinery Catches Fire After Suspected Iranian Drone Strike
_______________________________________________________________
BELOW ARE OLDER UPDATES
The conflict in the Middle East intensified sharply after Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting key energy infrastructure across the Gulf region, prompting strong reactions from neighbouring countries.
Qatar has ordered Iranian security and military attaches to leave the country following what it described as “extensive damage” to its main gas facility at Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export centres.
In the United Arab Emirates, authorities shut down the Habshan gas facilities in Abu Dhabi after a similar Iranian attack, while Saudi Arabia confirmed that two of its refineries were also targeted. Riyadh strongly condemned the strikes, stating that “the little trust that remained in Iran has been completely shattered.”
Kuwait Intercepts Missiles and Drones
Kuwait reported that its air defence systems were actively intercepting incoming missiles and drones. The Kuwaiti Army said explosions heard in the country were the result of successful interceptions and urged citizens to follow safety instructions.
Economic Shockwaves and Global Impact
The escalation has triggered widespread economic concerns, particularly over global energy supplies. Countries heavily dependent on Middle Eastern energy imports are beginning to feel the strain.
In South Korea, officials have expressed alarm over disruptions to supplies of petrochemicals, naphtha, and helium—critical components for exports such as semiconductors and plastics. Emergency government meetings have been held, with discussions around diversifying energy sources and even imposing fuel rationing.
Despite some relief through shipments bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, supply remains limited, underscoring the vulnerability of global energy markets.
Rising Regional and Global Risks
With key oil and gas facilities under attack and air defence systems actively engaged across the Gulf, the situation continues to escalate, raising fears of prolonged disruption to global energy supplies and further geopolitical instability.

Meanwhile, Iran continues diplomatic engagement with regional countries, as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with counterparts from Egypt, Pakistan, and Oman. Al Thani emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is not a bargaining chip or a tool for pressure, and it must remain open “without condition or restriction, under any circumstance.” He warned that any unilateral control over the strait would pose a threat not only to the Gulf region but also to the global economy.
He made these remarks amid disputed reports of ongoing talks between the US and Iran, which Tehran has denied.

“Pakistan is no more a mere backchannel peacemaker but is instead a lead mediator with unique positioning,” Khan told Al Jazeera. He emphasized that the country’s previous engagement last June earned it credibility in handling sensitive communications amid the conflict.
This development comes as regional tensions remain high, with international powers closely watching mediation efforts to de-escalate the war.
