Industrial visit to Cedar Wood Oil Unit organized by GDC Bhaderwah for UG students
An Industrial visit was organised by the Department of Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry of GDC Bhaderwah, organized for the students of UG Semester V to the Cedar Wood Oil Manufacturing Unit, M/S Natural Essential Oil Ltd., located at the Industrial Estate in Dandi, Bhaderwah.
This visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the extraction and manufacturing processes of cedar wood oil, as well as insights into pollution control measures and wastewater treatment practices.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Attar Singh Kotwal, Principal, and led by Prof. Malti Rajput, Head, Department of Chemistry and Prof. Anuradha Sharma, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences.
About 50 students of the subject of Environmental Sciences and 15 students of Chemistry Department participated, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Asif Baba Abdullah (Lecturer in Environmental Sciences), Dr. Pawan Kumar (Lecturer in Chemistry), and Mrs. Tahira Beghum (Lab Assistant, Chemistry Department).
Sh. Touseef Ahmed Bhagwan, The Managing Director and Mr. Muzamil provided a comprehensive overview of the cedar wood oil production process. They explained the sourcing of Deodar stumps and demonstrated the key steps of scrubbing, cutting, and steam distillation. The visit highlighted the diverse applications of cedar wood oil, including its use in pesticides and skincare products.
Moreover, the team emphasized sustainable practices in the management of by-products, such as the use of sawdust as a soil enricher. Students were also introduced to pollution control devices like Cyclone Separators and Wet Scrubbers, which help minimize air pollution, and learned how wastewater from the production process is repurposed as pesticide spray for orchards.
This immersive experience bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world application, leaving students with a deeper understanding of their studies’ practical relevance. They expressed their gratitude to the Cedar Wood Oil Manufacturing Unit for offering such a valuable and enlightening experience.
