India’s Fourth Phase of Earthquake Relief Aid Delivered to Nepal
Continuing its humanitarian efforts, India dispatched its fourth tranche of earthquake relief support to Nepal on Monday. This latest shipment includes essential medical supplies, closely aligning with the specific needs outlined by the Nepal Medical Association. This gesture is part of a broader initiative where India has already sent over 34 tonnes of emergency materials to assist the families affected by the Jajarkot earthquake on November 3.
Strengthening Ties Through Humanitarian Assistance
India’s consistent support in the wake of the Jajarkot earthquake is a testament to its Neighbourhood First Policy. The commitment to assist Nepal in these challenging times has been reiterated by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. He highlighted the importance of the ongoing relief efforts, emphasizing the significance of the fourth tranche comprising critical medicines and equipment. This approach reflects India’s dedication to supporting Nepal based on the latter’s government’s assessments and priorities.
Comprehensive Relief Efforts for Earthquake Victims
Previously, India had dispatched a third tranche of relief materials, including over 12 tonnes of essential items such as blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and medical supplies. This aid, delivered on November 9, 2023, via a special Indian Air Force C-130 flight, was a response to the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The support package addressed immediate needs, providing tents, tarpaulin sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, and vital medical supplies, including surgical equipment and portable ventilators.
India’s Prompt Response and Neighbourhood First Policy
This rapid response to the earthquake in Nepal underscores India’s commitment to being a first responder in regional crises. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar emphasized this point, noting that these efforts align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Neighbourhood First Policy. The policy highlights India’s readiness to provide immediate assistance, reflecting its dedication to supporting neighboring countries during emergencies.
