India’s Aditya L1 Spacecraft Nears Crucial Phase in Sun Study Mission
Aditya L1, India’s first mission dedicated to studying the Sun, is approaching a significant milestone in its journey. The spacecraft is set to complete maneuvers to enter the L1 point by early 2024.
ISRO Chairman S Somanath confirmed that Aditya L1 is almost in its final phase. The spacecraft’s entry into the L1 point is being incrementally prepared, marking a crucial step in its mission.
Expected Entry into L1 Point
The final maneuvers necessary for Aditya L1 to enter the L1 point, a strategic position for solar observation, are expected to be completed by January 7, 2024. This achievement will position the spacecraft optimally to study the Sun.
Launch and Journey Details
Launched on September 2 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Aditya L1 has traveled approximately 1.5 million km from Earth over 125 days. It is set to orbit around the Lagrangian point L1, a location ideal for uninterrupted solar observations.
Scientific Objectives
Aditya L1’s mission includes capturing and transmitting images of the Sun, contributing significantly to solar science. This mission underscores India’s growing capabilities in space exploration and research.
