Indian Mobile Industry Skyrockets: A Tale of Remarkable Growth
Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnav, recently shared the inspiring growth story of the Indian mobile industry on social media, revealing a 20-fold expansion in just nine years.
In 2014, India’s mobile market heavily relied on imports, with 78% of mobiles being sourced from abroad. Fast forward to 2023, and there’s been a dramatic turnaround – 99.2% of mobiles sold in India are now manufactured domestically.
Strategic Meetings and the Path Ahead
Minister Vaishnav convened with mobile industry leaders to review this progress. These meetings provided a platform to celebrate achievements, tackle challenges, and strategize for continued growth, further bolstering India’s manufacturing sector.
The Rise of Domestic Manufacturing and Global Collaboration
This growth spurt in the mobile sector has significantly reduced India’s import dependence. Major global players like Google, Samsung, and Apple are now assembling phones in India, adding to the country’s manufacturing prowess. Vaishnav’s recognition of this success highlights the industry’s alignment with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, marking a shift towards self-reliance and global prominence in mobile manufacturing.
