Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Concludes Successful UK Visit
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh concluded his visit to the UK after a productive meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and engagements with the Indian expatriate community. During his meeting with Sunak at 10 Downing Street, discussions covered a range of issues, including bilateral defence and economic ties. Singh presented a Ram Darbar statue to Sunak, Britain’s first Hindu Prime Minister.
In a statement, Singh expressed satisfaction with the warm meeting and highlighted discussions on defence, economic cooperation, and collaboration to strengthen a peaceful global rules-based order. Sunak echoed the need for the UK and India to work together, expressing hope for a successful conclusion to the ongoing free trade agreement negotiations.
Singh’s visit marked significant milestones, including interactions with the UK defence industry and addressing nearly 200 persons of Indian origin at a community reception. The Defence Minister outlined goals of integrating defence industries, supply chain integration, and promoting bilateral start-up interactions. His engagements emphasized the growing India-UK partnership, showcasing positive momentum in various sectors.
Two agreements were clinched during the visit—a Memorandum of Understanding on a bilateral international cadet exchange program and a Letter of Arrangement between DRDO and the UK’s DSTL on defence collaboration in research and development. Singh’s efforts contribute to strengthening diplomatic and defence ties between the two nations.
