India, US, South Korea Pledge Cooperation on Technology Protection
India, the United States, and South Korea have joined forces to coordinate measures aimed at safeguarding sensitive technologies and fostering trusted technology ecosystems, both regionally and globally. The inaugural trilateral technology dialogue, held in Seoul on Wednesday, signifies a significant step towards this collaborative effort.
Key Initiatives and Commitments
This dialogue follows the establishment of the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) in January 2023 and the US-ROK Next Generational Critical and Emerging Technology Dialogue in December 2023. The three nations reaffirmed their commitment to coordinating measures to protect sensitive technologies and foster trusted technology ecosystems.
Leadership and Participation
Led by representatives such as Joint Secretary Lekhan Thakkar from the National Security Council Secretariat of India, Senior Director Tarun Chhabra from the US National Security Council, and Deputy National Security Advisor Wang Yunjong from the South Korean National Security Office, the dialogue focused on expanding cooperation on critical and emerging technologies.
Shared Interests and Objectives
The three sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in critical and emerging technologies to support shared economic and national security interests. This includes fostering innovation, promoting economic growth, strengthening technology supply chains, and delivering technological solutions for the broader Indo-Pacific region.
Discussion Areas
During the meeting, discussions centered on opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including semiconductor supply chains, telecommunications, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, space technology, advanced materials, clean energy, critical minerals, defense industrial development, production, and biotechnology, including pharmaceutical supply chains.

The trilateral technology dialogue sets the stage for enhanced cooperation and collaboration among India, the United States, and South Korea in the field of critical and emerging technologies, contributing to economic growth, innovation, and security in the region and beyond.
