India to Establish Defence Wings Globally to Boost Defence Cooperation
Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande announced plans to establish Defence Wings at new locations around the world in an effort to enhance defence cooperation. Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue in Delhi, a flagship National Security Event organized by the Indian Army and the Centre of Land Warfare Studies, General Pande emphasized the importance of expanding joint exercises, interoperability, sub-regional collaboration, and sharing best practices with friendly foreign partner nations.
India’s Pursuit of Self-Reliance and Defense Industry Growth
General Pande also highlighted India’s determination to achieve self-reliance in defense hardware, facilitated by the resurgence of the Indian defense industry. The growth of India’s defense sector is contributing to its national resolve to meet security challenges effectively.
Global Trends in National Security and Hard Power
The Army Chief emphasized the evolving global landscape, which has seen a growing focus on “National Security” in international affairs and the renewed emphasis on hard power. General Pande noted the escalating conflict in West Asia and the myriad challenges in the international arena, including economic turbulence, information warfare, supply chain vulnerabilities, radicalization, terrorism, piracy, illegal migration, refugees, and climate change.
Importance of Security Discourses and Collaboration
Security discourses and collaborative efforts with like-minded countries are of great importance, given India’s alignment with shared interests and values, such as democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. These partnerships extend beyond security into areas like economic cooperation, innovation, technology, capacity building, multilateral problem-solving, and diplomacy.
Felicitating Paralympic Team Members
