India Provides Emergency Contact Number for Nepal Earthquake Assistance
After a significant 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, claiming 132 lives and leaving several injured, India has taken immediate action to provide assistance. India released an emergency contact number for Indians who require urgent support during this challenging time. The contact number is +977-9851316807, and it was shared by India in Nepal through their official channels.
Addressing Earthquake Severity and Building Structure
Dr. OP Mishra, the Director of the National Center for Seismology (NCS), emphasized two key factors contributing to the severity of the earthquake in the Himalayan region. He pointed out that the time and the structure of buildings in the area play a crucial role in how an earthquake impacts the region. Dr. Mishra stressed that it is not the earthquake itself that claims lives but the type of structures in the affected area.
“The intensity in Nepal was very strong, but when it came to Delhi, it was reduced. Intensity is the degree of shaking, but magnitude 6.4 represents the content of energy. An earthquake does not directly cause fatalities; it is the structure that poses a risk to people,” Mishra stated.
Leadership Response and Support
Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ visited the affected areas in Jajarkot to assess the situation and meet with the affected people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India expressed his deep sadness at the loss of lives and damage caused by the earthquake in Nepal. He offered India’s support and expressed willingness to provide all possible assistance.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale and an epicenter in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, resulted in tremors being felt in various North Indian districts, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
As the situation continues to develop, the support and assistance offered by India are expected to be vital in addressing the immediate needs of those affected by the earthquake.
