Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed deep regret for trusting former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa during his time in power, according to a Dawn report. Khan accused Bajwa of orchestrating his imprisonment and criticized Pakistan’s political and military leadership for their roles.
“My only regret is trusting General Bajwa,” Imran lamented, alleging that Bajwa created lies and false narratives to secure a second extension as the military head. Khan detailed his accusations against Bajwa, describing a meticulous plan by the former army chief to secure his extension by causing national and international chaos.
Initially supportive of Bajwa’s extension in 2019, Imran later admitted to Bol News in 2022 that it was a mistake, citing Bajwa’s detrimental impact on democracy and Pakistan. Khan claimed that Bajwa single-handedly spread stories painting him as anti-American, which contributed to his removal from office.
Imran’s criticism of Bajwa extended to his leadership style, describing him as unpredictable and driven by personal greed. “His insatiable thirst for power rendered him unpredictable,” Khan remarked, likening Bajwa’s actions to a “bull in a china shop.”
Throughout the interview, Khan emphasized his commitment to the rule of law and maintained that his imprisonment was unjust. He portrayed his incarceration as a result of political vendettas orchestrated by Bajwa and criticized the legitimacy of the current government, alleging election rigging and violence.
Imran’s message to the world highlighted his steadfast commitment to democracy and the rights of the Pakistani people. “This is not just about Imran Khan. This is an attack on democracy and the right to self-determination of 250 million people,” he declared, stressing the suppression of PTI members and the trust deficit between the ruling elite and the public.
Despite his imprisonment, Khan asserted that his popularity stemmed from his honesty and integrity. “They know no amount of money can buy or change me,” he affirmed, underscoring his unwavering dedication to the Pakistani people【source】.
