The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to reveal its new ensign on the occasion of its 91st anniversary in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The unveiling ceremony will be presided over by Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari, during the Air Force Day parade at Bamrauli in Prayagraj. As part of the celebrations, the IAF will also conduct an air show over the Sangam area near the Ordnance Depot Fort in Prayagraj.
The new IAF ensign has been designed to better reflect the values and identity of the Indian Air Force. It will prominently feature the Air Force Crest in the top right corner, towards the fly side. The IAF Crest includes the national symbol—the Ashoka lion—on the top, with the words “Satyameva Jayate” in Devanagari script below it. Beneath the Ashoka lion is a Himalayan eagle with its wings spread, symbolizing the fighting spirit and prowess of the IAF. A light blue ring encircles the Himalayan eagle, along with the words “Bhartiya Vayu Sena.”
The motto of the IAF, “Nabhaḥ-Spṛśaṃ Dīptam,” is inscribed below the Himalayan eagle in golden Devanagari script. This motto, taken from verse 24, Chapter 11 of the Bhagavad Gita, means “Radiant Thou Touchest Heaven” or “Touching the sky with Glory.”
During the unveiling ceremony, the older version of the ensign will be respectfully lowered, folded, and handed over to the Air Chief. Subsequently, it will become part of the exhibits at the Air Force Museum.
This unveiling marks a significant moment in the celebration of the Indian Air Force’s history and traditions.
