The Indian Air Force (IAF) took swift action on Sunday, deploying an AF Mi-17 V5 helicopter for multiple Bambi Bucket operations to extinguish forest fires in the Nilgiris region.

In coordination with the forest department and state administration, the IAF helicopter discharged over 16,000 litres of water to contain the spread of the fire, demonstrating a collaborative approach to combat the blaze.

    IAF’s Social Media Announcement

IAF shared updates on its firefighting efforts via social media, stating, “Continuing its firefighting efforts to douse the raging forest fire in the Nilgiris, the IAF Mi-17 V5 helicopter undertook multiple Bambi Bucket Operations.” The post highlighted the helicopter’s significant contribution in controlling the fire’s progression.

    Effective Utilization of Resources

Operating from Air Force station Sulur near Coimbatore, the Mi-17 V5 helicopter, equipped with a Bambi Bucket, was dispatched to the affected area. The Bambi Bucket, a specialized apparatus, enables the transport of a large volume of water underneath the aircraft, facilitating efficient dispersal over the fire-affected regions.

    Swift Response to Environmental Crisis

The IAF’s prompt deployment of resources underscores its commitment to environmental conservation and disaster relief efforts. By swiftly addressing forest fires, the IAF contributes to safeguarding natural habitats and communities in the Nilgiris region.
