IAF Celebrates 91st-Foundation Day with Grand Parade and Aerial Display Ceremonial Parade Kicks Off Celebration
The Indian Air Force (IAF) commenced its 91st Foundation Day celebration with a ceremonial parade at Bamrauli Air Force Station in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This day commemorates the official induction of the IAF into India’s armed forces, marking its establishment on October 8, 1932.
“IAF – Airpower Beyond Boundaries”
This year’s theme for the Indian Air Force Day is “IAF – Airpower Beyond Boundaries.” The grand program in Prayagraj began with a parade and flypast, followed by a captivating aerial display. Fighter aircraft, including Sukhoi 30, MiG 29, Rafale, Jaguar, and others graced the sky, creating a historic spectacle over Triveni Sangam. The Akashganga team also thrilled the audience with daring aerial stunts.
Historic Moment: Woman Officer Commands Parade
In a historic moment, Group Captain Shaliza Dhami, the first woman to command a frontline IAF combat unit, took charge of the IAF parade. She leads a missile squadron in the western sector. IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari unveiled the air force’s new ensign at Prayagraj during the event. The revised ensign features the IAF crest in the top right corner, alongside the national flag and the IAF tri-colour roundel.
Distinguished Greetings from Leaders
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended their warm wishes to IAF personnel on the 91st Air Force Foundation Day. They commended the IAF for its dedication, commitment, and valor.
President Murmu expressed pride in the strong and courageous Air Force, while Prime Minister Modi lauded their service and sacrifice for ensuring the safety of Indian skies. Union Minister Amit Shah recognized the IAF as a formidable force projecting air power beyond boundaries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the IAF’s service and sacrifices in protecting the nation’s sovereignty.
A Rich History of Service
Established initially as the Royal Indian Air Force, the IAF dropped the “Royal” prefix in 1950 when India became a Republic. Today, the IAF stands as the air wing of the Indian Armed Forces, ranking as the fourth-largest air force globally. The President of India serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, with the IAF led by an Air Chief Marshal.
The Indian Air Force continues to evolve, ensuring the nation’s aerial defense and security while projecting its air power worldwide.
