Heightened Security on Srinagar-Jammu Highway Amid Suspicious Vehicle Alert
Security measures along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway have been heightened following intelligence reports indicating suspicious movement of a vehicle on this vital link to the Valley.
In response to the information received, security has been bolstered across all districts of the Jammu division, as reported by the Tribune. Additionally, an alert has been issued for Republic Day throughout the entire Union Territory. The Tribune noted that the police detected the movement of a suspicious vehicle traveling from Kashmir to Jammu. However, as of now, there has been no official confirmation or detailed information regarding the incident.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed along the national highway in Udhampur, where personnel are conducting thorough checks on all vehicles traveling from Kashmir to Jammu. The 137 Battalion of the CRPF has been stationed in Udhampur to scrutinize vehicles and monitor any potential suspicious activities. A senior police official emphasized the heightened security measures in anticipation of Republic Day, stating, “With the Republic Day approaching, we are not leaving any loopholes in the security grid, for which a maximum number of security personnel have been deployed on the ground.”
CRPF personnel have set up checkpoints at various locations along the highway, actively scanning for the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or any other explosives. Simultaneously, patrol teams consisting of both J&K Police and CRPF personnel are conducting rounds along the highway to ensure the overall security situation.
