    Kerala, India, continues to battle relentless heavy rains, resulting in severe landslides and flooding across the state. The southernmost district of Thiruvananthapuram has been particularly affected, experiencing widespread waterlogging and flooding in various areas.

    Thiruvananthapuram District Under Siege The heavy rains, which began on Saturday, have inundated streets, roads, and low-lying regions of Thiruvananthapuram district. Visuals broadcasted on TV channels depicted the distressing scenes of waterlogged areas, with some instances of landslides.

    Rescue Efforts Amidst Rising Waters

    As the situation worsened, rescue teams sprang into action, utilizing inflatable boats to evacuate residents from their homes in parts of Thiruvananthapuram. The Technopark colony in Kazhakootam witnessed water entering homes, leading to the evacuation of affected individuals. Many homes were submerged, and landslides were reported in some areas.

    Government Response and Ministerial Visits

    State General Education Minister V Sivankutty visited the flood-affected regions and highlighted the unprecedented challenges facing Thiruvananthapuram. He mentioned widespread waterlogging, with seawater levels continuing to rise, exacerbating the crisis. The district administration is carrying out relief operations urgently, promising comprehensive support to the affected population. State Revenue Minister K Rajan also assessed the situation in flood-affected areas.

    Meteorological Alerts Continue

    The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha, indicating very heavy rain between 6 cm and 20 cm. Eight other districts in Kerala received a yellow alert, signaling heavy rainfall between 6 and 11 cm. The IMD predicts isolated heavy rainfall across the state in the coming days, maintaining an orange alert for four districts and a yellow alert for the remainder for the following day.
