Health Secretary Conducts Surprise Inspection at SMHS and GMC Srinagar
In an unannounced visit, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, took a tour of SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, emphasizing the need for swift completion of ongoing development projects.
During his visit, Dr. Abid Rasheed inspected various units of the hospital, including the casualty block, Bio-Chemistry Lab, Surgical Casualty, Medical and Emergency, Neuro-Surgery wards, and Operation Theatres. He engaged with patients, assessed the quality of healthcare services, and gathered feedback from both patients and attendants.
At the Casualty block, Dr. Abid Rasheed was briefed about patient care, inflow of patients, management, and various health interventions. Expressing concern for the well-being of patients, he urged the authorities to explore the possibility of providing lab tests and diagnostic facilities round the clock. The Secretary also emphasized the importance of cleanliness in and around the wards for the overall health of the patients.
Later, the Secretary visited Government Medical College, Srinagar, where he examined different units of the institute, chaired a meeting with faculty members, and discussed the overall functioning of the medical college.
During his visit to the Radiology Department at GMC, Dr. Abid Rasheed interacted with faculty members, reviewed the functioning of the department, and learned that various diagnostic tests are conducted daily, including CT scans, USGs, X-rays, and Colour Dopplers.
Addressing issues related to infrastructure and maintenance, Dr. Abid Rasheed inspected Doctor Rooms, Resident Rooms, Sanitary Blocks, and issued strict directives for their upkeep and hygiene. He encouraged doctors and paramedics to work with dedication and devotion to ensure the best possible patient care.
In a meeting with key officials, including the Principal/Dean of Government Medical College, Srinagar, Professor Dr. Masood Tanvir, and Administrator Associated Hospitals, Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, the Secretary discussed various aspects of healthcare system enhancement, academic improvements, and facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Dr. Abid Rasheed assured full support to enhance the effectiveness and patient-friendliness of the healthcare system. He urged expedited progress on ongoing projects such as the Theatre Block of SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, New Girls Hostel, and Multi Facility Centre. Stressing the importance of coordination among executing agencies and hospital administration, he emphasized the timely completion of these vital projects.
During the visit, the Secretary also inspected the Girls Hostel within the college campus, evaluating facilities such as the mess, dining hall, and common room. He interacted with hostel inmates, seeking their feedback on the available amenities. The Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, Dr. Muzaffar Zargar, along with CMO/RMO and concerned faculty members, were present during the meeting.
