Hardik Pandya Likely to Miss T20I Series Against Afghanistan Due to Injury, Aiming for IPL Comeback
Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is anticipated to miss the T20I series against Afghanistan due to an ankle injury but is expected to regain fitness before the Indian Premier League (IPL), a source revealed.
The injury sidelined him during the ICC Cricket World Cup after an impressive start, and he hasn’t played international cricket since then, missing subsequent series against Australia and South Africa.
During his absence, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul led the team in T20Is and ODIs respectively.
The upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled from January 11-17, is India’s final international assignment before the ICC T20 World Cup in June.
Pandya’s recent move from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians in November marked his return to his former franchise. As MI’s new skipper, he succeeds Rohit Sharma, who led the team to five IPL titles.
Pandya made significant contributions during his tenure with GT, scoring 833 runs and taking 11 wickets across 31 matches in 2022-23.
His earlier stint with MI from 2015-2021 showcased his prowess, contributing 1,476 runs and 42 wickets across 92 matches, playing a vital role in the team’s successes, securing four IPL trophies with MI and one with GT.
As Pandya eyes a comeback during IPL, his absence from the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan underscores his focus on recuperating from the injury, ensuring a strong return for the much-awaited cricketing extravaganza.
