A dangerous criminal, Mohd Latief, also known as Latief Punjabi, managed to escape from police custody in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, late Saturday night. Latief, a resident of Malpur in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, was apprehended by authorities last Thursday near his rented accommodation in Chak Dayala, close to the Basantar bridge.
Latief’s capture followed a significant operation by the police, during which a pistol and five cartridges were recovered from his possession. Despite this success, the criminal managed to slip away from the Rakh Amb Tali police post where he had been detained.
The circumstances surrounding his escape remain unclear, but local authorities have expressed their determination to recapture the fugitive swiftly.
Latief is a notorious figure with a long history of criminal activity, particularly in Samba district and Punjab. He is wanted in several cases involving serious offenses, including attempted murder, theft, rioting, and violations of the Arms Act.
