Peshawar [Pakistan], May 26 (VoM): At least five terrorists were killed and two security personnel lost their lives in a gun battle in Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area, according to ARY News, citing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday.
The clash resulted in the deaths of Havaldar Shafiq Ullah, 36, from Karak district, and Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, from Rahim Yar Khan. This incident occurs amid a surge in terrorist attacks across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the collapse of the government-brokered truce with the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
In a statement from ISPR, it was noted that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region. The security forces engaged the terrorists in a gunfight, leading to the elimination of five militants.
Previously, on April 9, security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists. These terrorists were reportedly involved in multiple attacks in the area, according to ARY News.
The increase in militant activities poses a significant challenge to Pakistan’s security forces, who continue to undertake operations to restore stability in affected regions.
