Gulmarg Gondola Skyrockets: Record Revenue and Tourist Numbers Soar
In the past year, over a million tourists (1,013,458 to be precise) have delighted in the exhilarating rides of the Gondolas, contributing to the J&K Cable Car Corporation’s impressive revenue of over Rs. 108 crore in the last calendar year. This marks a significant increase from the previous year’s figures in 2022, which amounted to Rs. 91 crore in revenue and 8.50 lakh tourist rides. Tourists have consistently described the experience as surreal and captivating.
The J&K Cable Car Corporation oversees the operations of the Gulmarg Gondola, a flagship attraction in Kashmir tourism. Standing at an elevation of 14,000 ft, it is not only possibly India’s most popular ropeway but also Asia’s highest operating cable car.
Apart from the notable increase in revenue and tourist visits, the Corporation has made strides in service delivery over the past year. This includes improvements to the ticket issuing process, implementation of various safety tests, and the incorporation of the latest technology in overhauling the second phase of the Gondola.
Tourists who have experienced the Gondola rides have nothing but praise to offer. Akshay from London, currently vacationing in Gulmarg, commended the seamless booking process and urged people from all around the world to enjoy the Gulmarg Gondola. First-time visitors Shubham and Ajat were impressed by the arrangements and sanitation at both phases of the Gondola, a sentiment echoed by a family from Delhi.
Sharing her experience, a tourist from Vietnam, Kentran, expressed gratitude for the friendly Gondola staff who went above and beyond to help when her daughter fell ill. Managing Director of the J&K Cable Car Corporation, Raja Yaqoob, urged tourists to utilize the online ticket-selling platform for convenience, time-saving, and to prevent any black marketing by touts. Yaqoob emphasized the Corporation’s commitment to enhancing the tourist experience, providing easy, hassle-free, and safe rides. He assured tourists of even better facilities in the future, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the specified timings on tickets to avoid inconvenience. Yaqoob highlighted that tourist feedback is taken seriously, and continuous improvements are being made to enhance customer services.
It’s worth noting that the Gulmarg Cable Car comprises two phases: the first from Gulmarg resort to Kongdori valley and the second from Kongdori to Apharwath Peak.
