On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha was informed by the government that more than 2900 Kanals of land belonging to Kashmiri Pandits have been successfully reclaimed from encroachment in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a written response, Nitiyanand Rai, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, highlighted the government’s concerted efforts to reintegrate Kashmiri migrants into the Valley. According to data from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, 46,631 Kashmiri migrant families, consisting of 1,57,967 individuals, are registered with the Relief Organization (Migrant), J&K. These families had to relocate from the valley due to security concerns. Additionally, there are numerous Kashmiri migrant families who have moved to other parts of the country. The government has facilitated government employment for 5,675 Kashmiri migrants. To accommodate these individuals in the Kashmir Valley, 6000 transit accommodation units have been constructed, with 880 flats already completed, Rai stated.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the steps taken by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to address grievances related to encroachment. An online portal was launched in August 2021, allowing Kashmiri migrants to file complaints regarding encroachment, changes of title, mutation, and distress sales. As of now, 2924 Kanals and 19.55 Marlas of land have been successfully reclaimed through this portal.

Rai also provided an update on the issuance of certificates, revealing that 160,856 domicile certificates, 2,035 Resident of Backward Area (RBA) certificates, 902 Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates, and 31,672 migrant certificates have been issued to date. These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns and needs of Kashmiri migrants and ensuring the reclamation of their rightful properties.
