
Government Establishes Committee to Identify Unauthorized Foreign Residents in Jk
The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has established a high-level committee with the mandate to identify foreign nationals who have been residing in the Union Territory illegally since January 1, 2011. This committee, led by the Financial Commissioner/Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department in J&K, has been constituted to address the issue of foreign nationals overstaying in the Union Territory.
The committee is composed of various officials and authorities, including the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) from the Bureau of Immigration in Amritsar, Punjab. It also includes the Senior Superintendent of Police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch, in both Jammu and Srinagar, as well as all district Senior Superintendents of Police (SPs) who serve as Foreigners Registration Officers (FROs) within their respective districts. Additionally, the State Coordinator from the IVRFT (Integrated Visa and Foreigners Registration Tracking) under the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in Jammu & Kashmir is also a part of the panel.

In line with its terms of reference, the committee’s primary task is to compile a monthly report detailing foreign nationals who are considered missing or have overstayed their legal permissions in Jammu & Kashmir. This monthly report is to be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs by the 7th of every month. This initiative aims to address and rectify the issue of foreign nationals residing illegally in the Union Territory, with the collaboration of various relevant authorities and departments.
