Government Clears Import Requests for IT Hardware
The Indian government has approved approximately 110 out of 111 requests for the import of laptops, computers, and other IT hardware products. The approvals include companies like Dell International Services India, HP India Sales Pvt Ltd, Lenovo (India), ASUS India, and many others. These companies sought authorization for importing IT products, and the government’s new ‘import management system’ allows for the monitoring of these imports without disrupting the market’s supply.
Easing Import Curbs on IT Hardware
Last month, the government introduced changes to import restrictions on laptops and computers. The new system allows importers to bring in IT hardware shipments from overseas with a simple ‘authorization’ that details quantity and value. The goal is to maintain a trusted supply chain for laptops, tablets, and computers without imposing a burdensome licensing regime. Import authorizations have been issued to all major IT hardware companies, and the government is handling all applications within the stipulated timeframe.
A Trusted Supply Chain for IT Hardware
The new license regime applies to various IT hardware products, ensuring that India’s supply chain remains reliable and efficient.
