Ghulam Nabi Azad Criticizes Congress’s Solo Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra
The Chief of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Ghulam Nabi Azad, has criticized the Congress party’s decision to conduct the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra alone. Azad expressed the view that collaborating with other political parties for a joint journey across the country would have been more impactful. He highlighted the importance of unity, stating that a solo yatra by Congress would not lead anywhere.
Unity Breakdown and Critique of the INDIA Bloc
Azad commented on the breakdown of unity within the opposition and specifically targeted the INDIA bloc. He emphasized the difference between proclaiming unity and actual unity on the ground. Azad recalled his successful strategy of forging alliances during his tenure as the party general secretary. He suggested that the Congress should have sought the support of 26 parties but instead initiated the yatra independently.
Marriage of Compulsion and Nitish Kumar’s Move
Referring to the formation of the INDIA bloc, Azad characterized it as a ‘marriage of compulsion’ and criticized Congress for not gaining enough support to establish the leader of the opposition. He took a swipe at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who recently switched sides again, aligning with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Azad stated that Kumar behaves like an unrecognised party, constantly shifting alliances, but acknowledged his ability to maintain a vote bank.
Azad’s critique adds to the ongoing political discussions about alliance strategies and unity within the opposition ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
