
Gangster Injured in Encounter With Police in Miran Sahib Jammu, Associate Escapes
JAMMU, Apr 27 (VoM News): Police have apprehended a drug smuggler from the Miran Sahib area of Jammu after a brief exchange of gunfire was reported late at night, officials said.
Reports say police acted on specific input and trapped the accused, identified as Abhineet Singh alias Nagi, along with his associate, who were seen roaming on a motorcycle.
Police stated that Singh is a history-sheeter, with nearly 13 cases registered against him, including cases of attempt to murder, rioting, and arms smuggling.
Officials said that a naka was set up to nab the accused, where Singh attempted to break through it and was chased by police. Police officials said he also opened fire, at which the security team retaliated in self-defence.
Later, he was located and found injured, whereas a hunt has been launched to nab the second accused.
The injured was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment, while police have initiated a probe, which is underway.
Acting on specific intelligence, police teams laid a trap to intercept Abhineet Singh alias Nagi and his associate, who were reportedly moving through the area on a motorcycle.
An official said Singh, a history-sheeter wanted in more than 13 FIRs, including cases of attempt to murder, rioting, and arms smuggling, tried to break through a naka set up by police.
“When challenged, the accused opened fire at the police party. In self-defence and to prevent any risk to the public, the police retaliated,” the official said.
During the exchange, both suspects abandoned their motorcycle and attempted to flee under the cover of darkness.
Police later located one of the accused with injuries in a nearby canal. He was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The second suspect managed to escape, and a search operation has been launched to track him down. Officials said further investigation is underway.
