Four Charged in Kashmir Killings; Pakistani Handler Wanted
Key Highlights:
- NIA charges four, including a Pakistani terrorist, for February killings.
- Accused include Adil Manzoor Langoo, Ahran Rasool Dar, Dawood, and Jahangeer.
- Investigation shows LeT-linked plot to terrorize non-locals in Srinagar.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has charged four individuals, including a Pakistan-based terrorist, for the murder of two non-local civilians by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), in Kashmir earlier this year.
The accused are Adil Manzoor Langoo, Ahran Rasool Dar, Dawood, and Jahangeer, who orchestrated the attack from Pakistan.
According to the NIA, the charges against the individuals involve various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act). A special court in Jammu has issued a non-bailable warrant for Jahangeer, who remains at large.
The incident occurred on the evening of February 7, 2024, in Karfali Mohalla, Shala Kadal, Srinagar. The NIA took over the investigation in June 2024, re-registering it as RC-01/2024/NIA/JMU.
The agency’s probe revealed that Adil Manzoor Langoo, who joined LeT in 2023, was directed by Pakistani handlers to escalate terror activities in Srinagar.
Langoo, along with Ahran Rasool Dar and Dawood, was instructed by Jahangeer to instill fear among non-locals as part of a broader agenda against the Government of India.
The trio conspired to carry out the attack, with Langoo and Ahran receiving arms and ammunition from Jahangeer, which were used in the killings. Dawood assisted in destroying evidence related to the crime.
The NIA continues its crackdown on terrorist organizations in Kashmir, emphasizing that LeT, despite being banned by the Indian government, continues to operate through its offshoots.
The group has been actively recruiting local youth through social media to further its agenda.
