The casualties included two captains, a havildar, and a jawan, while a major and another jawan suffered injuries and were promptly transferred to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur for medical attention. The confrontation transpired during a cordon-and-search operation initiated by joint forces of the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal.
Authorities revealed that the clash was a result of specific intelligence gathered, leading to joint operations in the Kalakote area of Gulabgarh forest in Rajouri on Sunday. In a statement posted on X, the White Knight Corps of the Army conveyed that contact was established on November 22, triggering an intense firefight.
The trapped terrorists were reportedly injured and surrounded, with ongoing operations showcasing acts of valor and sacrifice by Indian Army personnel to prevent collateral damage to civilians, particularly women and children. The post concluded with a salute to the supreme sacrifice made by the bravehearts.Local residents recounted a continuous cordon-and-search operation since Sunday, urging them to remain indoors for safety.
The operation disrupted normal activities, including school attendance for children, as the firefight occurred in the forest area near the village.Authorities disclosed that the two trapped terrorists in Bajimaal, suspected to be foreign nationals, had been moving in the area since Sunday and sought refuge in a place of worship.
The encounter is the latest in a series of security incidents, following a gunfight in Behrote in Budhal on November 17, where one terrorist was killed.Previous ambushes in Mendhar (Poonch) on April 20 and Kandi forest (Rajouri) on May 5 claimed the lives of 10 soldiers.
Since January, terrorism-related incidents in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, along with nearby Reasi district, have resulted in 46 deaths. Rajouri recorded 23 casualties, including seven terrorists and nine security personnel, while Poonch reported 15 terrorists and five security personnel killed. Three terrorists lost their lives in Reasi district, according to official records.
