Former Minister’s Son and Two Others Rescued After SUV Gets Swept Away in Swollen River.
A Terrifying Nighttime Ordeal
In a harrowing incident that unfolded on a rainy Friday night, three individuals, including the 19-year-old son of former Madhya Pradesh minister Ranjana Baghel, narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation when the SUV they were traveling in was swept away by the forceful currents of a swollen river in Indore district.
Desperate Moments on the Choral River
The trio, consisting of Yash Baghel, Tejas (24), and another passenger named Mallya, found themselves in a perilous situation when they attempted to cross a submerged culvert on the Choral river. Despite the obvious danger posed by the rising waters, they ventured forward.
Heroic Rescue Efforts
Fortunately, their ordeal did not end in tragedy. Prompt action by the local authorities and the assistance of courageous villagers led to a successful rescue operation. Yash Baghel, who possesses swimming skills, clung to a tree branch amidst the relentless current, ultimately finding safety after a series of rescue attempts by the responding team.
Indore’s Woes Continue
The incident occurred against the backdrop of severe rainfalls that have plagued Indore city since Friday evening, causing extensive water-logging and disruptions to daily life. With no respite in sight, authorities have been compelled to take measures to protect the city’s residents.
Amidst these challenging circumstances, the district administration has declared a holiday for all schools, and efforts are underway to relocate people residing in low-lying areas to safer zones.
The Meteorological Department’s Deputy Director, V.P.S. Chandel, reported that a staggering 171 mm (6.73 inches) of rainfall inundated Indore city within a 24-hour span ending at 8:30 am on Saturday. Additionally, forecasts have raised concerns about the possibility of further heavy rainfall in the city.
