Foreign Nationals Arrested at Delhi Airport with 3 kg Gold Worth Rs 1.96 Crore
In a significant operation, the Customs Department officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport apprehended two foreign nationals and seized more than 3 kg of gold, valued at approximately Rs 1.96 crore.
The officials from Delhi Customs Preventive, operating out of the New Customs House, intercepted the two Uzbek nationals, identified as Zamirakhon Kabirova and Makhpirakhon Mamatkhodjaeva.
Acting on profiling techniques, the officials suspected gold smuggling and booked a case against the individuals.The passengers arrived at the Domestic Terminal T-1 of the IGI Airport via an Indigo flight from Lucknow to Delhi, having earlier landed in Lucknow from Sharjah. Upon attempting to exit the Arrival gate at Terminal 1 of IGI Airport, New Delhi, customs officers intercepted the duo.A thorough search of their baggage and body inspection led to the discovery of 27 gold bars, totaling 3,150 grams in weight.
The estimated worth of the recovered gold stands at approximately Rs 1.96 crore.Under the provisions of Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, the seized gold bars have been confiscated based on the belief that they are liable for confiscation as per Section 111 of the Customs Act, 1962.
The two passengers have been arrested today in accordance with Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962. The investigation into the smuggling case is currently ongoing, further probing the details and circumstances surrounding the incident.
