First Phase of PM Shri Scheme to Develop 233 Schools in Jammu and Kashmir Announced
A total of 233 existing schools in Jammu and Kashmir are set to undergo development and upgrading in the initial phase of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) scheme, as per a statement from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).
Additionally, the UT administration has proposed 265 schools for upgradation in the second phase, seeking approval from the Ministry of Education. Notably, twenty master trainers, representing each district, have received training in New Delhi for this purpose.
During a review meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the focus of the PM SHRI Schools scheme was emphasized. Sinha highlighted that these schools would lead by example and mentor other educational institutions in their respective areas.
The scheme aims to enhance learning outcomes for every student across grades, fostering critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity in all schools.
The initiative was announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Teacher’s Day in 2022, aiming to upgrade and develop approximately 14,500 schools nationwide.
Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, presented the guiding principles for school selection under the scheme.
Lt Governor Sinha directed the formulation of a comprehensive five-year plan to reduce the distance between schools, emphasizing that new schools should be sanctioned with a focus on minimizing travel distances for children.
Moreover, Lt Governor Sinha urged the inclusion of life histories and contributions of inspirational figures such as General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh, Maqbool Sherwani, and other notable personalities in school curricula.
He also instructed the inclusion of vocational training, skill development programs in schools, and the incorporation of Indian Philosophy in all universities within the Union Territory.
