The final electoral rolls for Jammu and Kashmir are set to be published on August 20, coinciding with the release of the first notification for the upcoming Assembly elections.

This event marks a significant step in the electoral process, as the voter count in the region is anticipated to increase to between 8.8 million and 8.9 million, up from the current 8.7 million registered voters.

This update follows the conclusion of the Special Summary Revision, which includes voter details categorized by Assembly constituencies.

The revision is particularly significant due to the Delimitation Commission’s recent changes, which have redrawn many constituency boundaries. This redistricting is a result of the increase in the number of Assembly seats from 83 to 90.

The newly revised electoral rolls also highlight key voter demographics in Jammu and Kashmir. There are currently 4.44 million male voters, 4.26 million female voters, and 169 transgender voters.

Additionally, over 3.7 lakh individuals will be casting their votes for the first time in this election. The region has a total of 11,838 polling stations, each serving an average of 735 voters.

The first notification for the three-phase Assembly elections will cover 24 constituencies, with candidates allowed to file their nominations until August 27.

Voting for the first phase is scheduled to take place on September 18, marking a crucial moment in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
