Farooq Abdullah Backs INDIA Alliance Decision on Seat Sharing; Questions Delay in Local Elections Amid Claims of Peace in J-k

On Sunday, Farooq Abdullah, the chief of the National Conference, affirmed his party’s commitment to the decision of the INDIA alliance regarding seat sharing in Jammu and Kashmir for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the following year.

During a book release event in which he was participating, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir questioned the government’s rationale for not conducting local bodies elections despite asserting that peace had been restored in the Union Territory.

Responding to a query about seat-sharing among political parties in the Union Territory, Abdullah, who is a leader of the National Conference (NC), stated to reporters, “We are part of the INDIA alliance and will adhere to its decision.”

Both the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are regional parties from Jammu and Kashmir that are aligned with the opposition bloc.

Abdullah conveyed a message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, urging them to stay prepared for upcoming elections. He expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to conduct elections despite their claims of normalcy in the region.

“We were prepared for panchayat, DDC (District Development Council), and even municipality elections this year. Notices were issued but were withdrawn within five days, and the elections were intentionally delayed. Despite asserting normalcy, the government could not organize an election. If an election can be held in Kargil, why not in Jammu and Kashmir?” questioned Abdullah.

He emphasized his party’s support for the establishment of industries that would benefit the people, generate employment, and adhere to environmentally friendly practices.

“We do not endorse industries that contribute to pollution. Our aim is progress, and we desire the advancement of Jammu and Kashmir. Our youth are facing unemployment,” he stated.
