Farmers Protest: Delhi Chalo 2.0 Begins with Clashes and Tear Gas
Farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo 2.0’ protest began with clashes and tear gas at the Punjab-Haryana Shambhu border. Over 200 farmer unions, representing an estimated one lakh farmers, are demanding, among other things, a law guaranteeing MSP for all crops. The government claimed that the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, a key farmer organization, never nominated representatives to a committee formed in July 2022 to make MSP more effective and transparent. The protest comes weeks before elections, and the ruling BJP has initiated talks, but differences persist on key issues.
