Explosion Rocks Girls School in North Waziristan, Pakistan
- Unidentified militants trigger explosion at a private girls’ school.
- No casualties reported; two rooms of the building destroyed.
- Locals threaten power supply halt if duration not extended to six hours.
An explosion rocked a private girls’ school in the North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as reported by Dawn, citing police sources. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, resulted in the destruction of two rooms of the building, allegedly by unidentified militants who first tortured the school’s watchman.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or loss of life in the explosion, Dawn confirmed. This attack is reminiscent of similar incidents last year targeting government schools for girls in Mirali, where no casualties were reported despite threats received prior. The affected schools, Government Girls Middle School Noor Jannat and Government Girls Middle School Yunus Kot, were the only private girls’ educational institutions in the area.
In response to the power supply issue, locals in North Waziristan have warned of suspending power from the Miramshah grid station unless the daily supply duration is extended to six hours. Tribal elders, expressing frustration over inadequate electricity supply despite substantial generation, emphasized their demand by threatening to disrupt power supply and uproot infrastructure if unmet.
