Ex-Governor Zubair Criticizes Nawaz Sharif for Reversing Political Narrative
Key Highlights:

- Warns PML-N leadership about the risks of clashing with PTI’s popularity.
Former Sindh Governor and estranged Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Mohammad Zubair, has accused party President Nawaz Sharif of reversing his previously supported narrative, ARY News reported. Speaking on ARY News’ “Sawal Yeh Hai” program, Zubair highlighted that Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif had signed the Charter of Democracy to acknowledge past mistakes that undermined democratic processes.
“Nawaz Sharif is now repeating the same old mistakes instead of adhering to the Charter of Democracy,” Zubair asserted. He suggested that Sharif’s shift came after the motion of no confidence against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, arguing that Sharif’s current stance contradicts his earlier positions. Zubair cautioned that the PML-N might lose governmental support if it maintains a stance similar to Imran Khan’s PTI.
Zubair proposed that the PML-N and PTI should sign a new charter of democracy, emphasizing that the responsibility lies with the PML-N as it currently holds government power. He commended Rana Sanaullah for his attempts to initiate dialogue but noted a lack of support from the party leadership.
Reflecting on the party’s trajectory, Zubair pointed out that the PML-N had abandoned the “vote ko izzat do” (respect the vote) slogan before the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government took over. He stated that the PML-N started with a confrontational narrative, then shifted to reconciliation, and is now focusing on economic issues.
According to Zubair, Shehbaz Sharif had prepared an assembly dissolution statement, and Nawaz Sharif recommended holding elections immediately after the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. He also mentioned that Miftah Ismail renegotiated the International Monetary Fund (IMF) contract, a challenging task, leading to his replacement by Ishaq Dar.
Zubair warned that the PTI currently enjoys significant public support, which the PML-N leadership seems unwilling to acknowledge. He questioned the PML-N’s strategy, saying, “If they quarrel with a popular party, where will they go?”
