President Minouche Shafik faces criticism for involving the NYPD in dispersing a pro-Palestinian encampment, with pressure mounting from legislators and donors to repeat the action amid ongoing protests.
The turmoil underscores concerns about safety, particularly for Jewish students, as protests continue nationwide. US House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to visit Columbia University to address the surge of antisemitism. At New York University, over 130 were arrested during a pro-Palestinian demonstration, prompting clashes with police. Yale University and other institutions witnessed arrests amid campus protests.
