Srinagar, Sep 12 (KNO): North Kashmir MP Er Rashid has declared that he and his party would back the INDIA alliance if they promise to introduce a resolution in Parliament for the restoration of Article 370.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Rashid urged the alliance to provide a written commitment on the issue.
He also called on the public to help his party win 40 seats in the upcoming J&K elections. If successful, Rashid vowed to stage a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in Delhi, pledging to take unprecedented action for the people of Kashmir.
Rashid, the chief of the Awami Itehad Party, denied accusations of being anti-India or pro-Pakistan. He questioned the National Conference (NC) for not acting on its current promises during its time in power.
He also criticized the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru in Tihar prison under the former J&K administration, contrasting it with the lenient treatment of political leaders at Srinagar’s SKICC.
In a sharp rebuke to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rashid accused the party of facilitating BJP’s entry into J&K politics, contradicting its earlier claims of preventing such a move.
He reiterated his opposition to Prime Minister Modi’s “Naya Kashmir” narrative, claiming it has failed the people of Kashmir.
When asked if he would collaborate with NC, Congress, or PDP in the future, Rashid challenged these parties to present a clear roadmap for restoring Article 370.
