Ensuring Peaceful Elections: J&K Police Chief Assures Safety and Security
Jammu and Kashmir‘s Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain reaffirmed on Monday the police force’s unwavering commitment to ensuring peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the region. Speaking at the inauguration of the police post in Rohmoo, Pulwama’s Southern district, the DGP expressed confidence in the force’s preparedness for the upcoming polls.
Ensuring Peaceful Elections:Preparedness and Commitment for Upcoming Lok Sabha Polls
“We are fully prepared and geared up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in J&K. Our primary goal is to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for enthusiastic voters,” stated the DGP during the press interaction. He emphasized the police force’s dedication to facilitating a smooth electoral process and safeguarding the citizens’ right to vote without fear or intimidation.
Addressing concerns about the nexus between narco-terror and terrorism, the DGP shed light on the evolving understanding of their connection. Initially harboring doubts, he revealed, “As investigations progressed, concrete evidence emerged that narco-trade and terrorism are not only linked but deeply interconnected. Terrorist outfits such as Al-Badr, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and Lashkar-e-Toiba are actively involved in this trade.”

Providing insights into the financial aspect of this illicit activity, Swain disclosed that a consignment of narcotics valued at Rs 15 lakh reaches up to Rs 1 Crore while traversing from Kashmir to Delhi and other parts of the country. Despite the challenges, he assured the public of the police force’s robust mechanism to curb and dismantle this nefarious trade. “It is not an easy task, but we are actively addressing it, and the police force is capable of handling the situation effectively,” he affirmed.
In conclusion, the DGP’s statements underscore the pivotal role of the police force in maintaining law and order during elections and combating the intertwined issues of narco-terrorism, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring a secure environment for the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir.
