Passenger’s Bomb Claim Forces Emergency Landing: Emergency Landing in Mumbai After Bomb Hoax on Delhi-Bound Flight
A Delhi-bound Akasa flight, carrying 185 passengers from Pune, was compelled to make an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport following a passenger’s alarming assertion that he possessed a bomb in his bag. This incident, which unfolded in the early hours, created a tense situation that was ultimately resolved.
Emergency Landing Amidst Panic
The flight, en route to Delhi, was diverted to Mumbai Airport approximately 40 minutes after departing from Pune Airport. The passenger’s bomb threat triggered an emergency response, leading to the flight’s diversion. The airlines confirmed the incident, indicating that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
Resolution of the Hoax
After the flight landed in Mumbai, authorities swiftly moved to address the situation. A CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) officer informed the Mumbai Police Control, prompting an immediate search of the passenger’s luggage in the presence of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team, as well as police officers. However, after a thorough investigation, no suspicious objects were found.
The passenger who had made the false bomb claim was transported to the hospital via ambulance as he reported chest pain. His relative accompanying him on the flight explained that he had taken medication for chest discomfort.
The flight, following security clearance and verification, eventually continued its journey to Delhi from Mumbai Airport, departing at around 6 am.
Mumbai Police has initiated further investigations to determine the motivation behind the hoax and assess the potential consequences of such a false claim on a commercial flight. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent security measures and swift responses in safeguarding passengers and maintaining air travel safety.
