EAS JaiShankar’s Security Upgraded to ‘Z’ Category by Central Government
In a significant development, the Centre has elevated the security level for External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar from ‘Y’ to ‘Z’, as per official sources. This decision follows a thorough threat analysis report from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of key officials.
Strengthened Security Measures for Jaishankar
The decision to elevate the security cover was made by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which, upon reviewing the IB’s report, directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to take over the responsibility for his security. Previously, this responsibility had rested with the Delhi Police.
Jaishankar, who is 68 years old, was previously under round-the-clock security cover by an armed team of the Delhi Police categorized as ‘Y’. With the recent upgrade, the External Affairs Minister will now receive the heightened protection of CRPF personnel, classified under the ‘Z’ security category. This entails a formidable security contingent, comprising over a dozen armed commandos, ensuring his safety during movements and throughout his stay, round the clock and across the country.
CRPF’s Expanding VIP Security Portfolio
The CRPF, an elite paramilitary force, has been increasingly entrusted with the responsibility of providing VIP security. Currently, it safeguards 176 protectees, which includes prominent figures like Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Additionally, 24 other individuals have recently been granted temporary security on account of the forthcoming elections.
This substantial upgrade in security reinforces the government’s commitment to safeguarding its key officials, especially those holding crucial positions in the realm of foreign affairs. The decision underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of its ministers and leaders in an ever-evolving security landscape.
