EAM Jaishankar Affirms India’s Indo-Pacific Vision in Manila
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited the Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar during its port call to Manila, emphasizing India’s Act East policy and Indo-Pacific vision. He highlighted the deepening relations between India and the Philippines, noting the historical maritime ties between the two nations.
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation
Jaishankar underscored the importance of cooperation between the coast guards of India and the Philippines, facilitated by enhanced maritime cooperation agreements. He mentioned the commencement of specialized training courses in India for the Philippine Coast Guard, emphasizing mutual participation in search and rescue and pollution response exercises.
The visit of the pollution control vessel to the Philippines symbolized the shared challenges in environmental protection. Jaishankar emphasized the need for like-minded Indo-Pacific nations to collaborate more extensively in addressing environmental issues and promoting sustainable development.
