
Drug Peddler booked in Srinagar under PIT NDPS Act
SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Police on Tuesday booked a drug peddler, Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh, alias Shakeel Kano, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Srinagar, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPSA).
According to a statement, a comprehensive dossier was prepared by Srinagar Police, following which a PIT NDPSA warrant was issued by the competent authority. The accused was subsequently lodged in District Jail Udhampur, the police spokesperson stated.

The statement further revealed that the drug peddler is a habitual offender, previously involved in FIR No. 131/2022 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Safakadal. Despite being repeatedly subjected to preventive measures, Shakeel Kano continued his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a significant threat to society, particularly the youth.

Renowned for his notoriety as a chronic offender and drug peddler, the accused has been actively engaged in narcotics trafficking and public nuisance. He is identified as a key figure in the narcotics trade, sourcing drugs from multiple suppliers and selling them at inflated prices, predominantly targeting young individuals in Srinagar, the statement added.
The police reiterated their commitment to tackling the drug menace, underscoring that this decisive action demonstrates their determination to dismantle the illicit drug network. “The unwavering efforts of J&K Police will continue against drug peddlers and their networks with the full force of the law to ensure a safer, drug-free environment for the community,” the statement concluded.
