Doda Bus Tragedy: 39 Lives Lost, Enquiry Launched, Communities Mourn
In a devastating incident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll in a bus accident has risen to 39, as confirmed by the Doda Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday. The tragic event unfolded when a bus, carrying 55 passengers from Kishtwar to Jammu, lost control at a curve, plunging into a gorge near Trungal in the Assar area.
Inquiry Committee Formed as Rescue Efforts Intensify
Amidst the rescue efforts, authorities have established an enquiry committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident. At least 17 individuals sustained injuries and are receiving treatment, with 15 at the Government Medical College in Doda and 2 at Government Hospital in Jammu.
Heartbreaking Loss and Personal Stories Emerge
As the community grapples with the aftermath, personal stories of those affected by the tragedy are surfacing. Among the victims are Suresh and Itvari, who were en route to Chattisgarh. The couple leaves behind two young children, one-year-old Harshali and two-year-old Lili. Neera Bai, a relative of the deceased, expresses the responsibility she now bears for the children.
Government Response: Ex-Gratia and Support for Affected Families
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of each deceased, recognizing the profound loss. Additionally, Rs 1 lakh will be provided to the injured individuals, and the J&K UT Administration pledges comprehensive assistance to the affected families during this distressing time.
