Doda Bus Accident Toll Rises: 38 Dead, 17 Injured
The tragic bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district has seen an increase in fatalities, with the death toll now at 38, while 17 others have been injured. The district administration is airlifting the injured to Jammu for advanced medical treatment.
According to Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of GMCH Jammu, four of the injured were brought to Jammu, but two succumbed to their injuries. The remaining two are undergoing treatment.
Home Minister’s Condolences and Rescue Efforts
Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his deep condolences for the loss of lives and mentioned that local authorities are actively engaged in the rescue operations at the accident site. The bus, carrying 55 passengers, was en route from Kishtwar to Jammu when it veered off the road near Trungal in the Assar area and plunged down a steep slope.
Government’s Response and Helicopter Services
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh updated on the situation, revealing that 36 persons had died and 19 were injured initially, with 6 in serious condition. He has been in communication with Doda District Commissioner, Harvinder Singh, regarding the shifting of the injured to Government Medical College Doda and arranging helicopter services for the critically injured.
Lt Governor and Former CM Express Grief
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his sorrow over the accident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed the Divisional Commissioner and District Administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her condolences and urged the administration to expedite rescue operations.
