Police Sacrifices and the Erosion of Militancy

The DGP, while addressing reporters during the Police Commemoration Day function, paid tribute to the valiant police personnel who have sacrificed their lives since the onset of terrorism in J&K. A staggering 1,605 police officers have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation and its people. These brave heroes have played a pivotal role in controlling infiltration and substantially reducing the recruitment of militants, thereby contributing to the gradual decline of militancy in the region.

Combatting Narco-Terrorism and Ensuring Professional Investigations

Dilbag Singh also shed light on the issue of narco-terrorism, revealing that in recent years, approximately 39 cases related to this menace have been registered. These cases are currently under professional investigation by agencies such as the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Special Investigation Unit (SIU), and State Intelligence Agency (SIA). Notably, the JK Police achieved a significant breakthrough in Ramban, seizing around 30 kilograms of a cocaine-like substance. The links of this operation extended to Kupwara, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, and all individuals involved have been apprehended.

The DGP articulated his firm resolve to combat Pakistan-backed narco-terrorism with the utmost determination. He called for the cooperation of the public in thwarting this conspiracy, which he believes is an attempt by Pakistan to harm the youth and generate funds for terror activities.

Youth Empowerment and Curtailing Infiltration

Despite challenges posed by active militant camps in certain parts of Pakistan, the DGP revealed that the police force successfully foiled approximately 90% of infiltration attempts this year. He also noted that the youth of J&K have become more discerning, recognizing the sinister agendas of Pakistan and its agencies. Only 10 misguided youths have joined terror groups this year, a significant drop from the previous year’s 110. Dilbag Singh passionately appealed to these misguided youth to abandon violence and contribute to the peace and development of J&K.

In closing, the DGP conveyed an optimistic outlook for the region. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed a transformative period marked by peace and development. The union territory is resolutely moving toward a brighter future, with all stakeholders collectively striving for permanent peace and tranquility. This renewed commitment signifies a promising era for Jammu and Kashmir, symbolizing hope and progress for its residents.
